Elena Sineva

Elena Sineva

Elena Sineva is both a scientist and a painter. She works in oils, with a particular love of flowers and still life, and what holds her attention is how light makes color glow — that luminous quality is the heart of her paintings.

She had always wanted to paint, and began when her child grew up and the white walls of a new home asked for something bright. What started as a way to bring color into her own space grew into a wish to share it; many of her paintings now live in the homes of friends and colleagues.

Her practice keeps evolving through study and experiment — lessons with Kelli Folsom and Tatyana Klimova among them — and she is more interested in exploration than in photorealism. Experimenting with framing and placement has shown her how a painting transforms the room around it; her hope is that viewers will encounter, and perhaps live with, the light and color that first drew her in.

See her work in person at Ranchito Galería, 848 S Camino del Pueblo, Bernalillo. Open Fri–Sat 10–6, Sun 11–4.
